Hi! I’m Joe. How’s it going? I would like to consider myself
a writer, but when you don’t really have a career or obligation to do any
writing, it can be hard to find the time or muster up the motivation to actually
do any. I am pretty adept at this and often hold off on doing anything
productive indefinitely, cos why bother when I can just watch 10 episodes of a Canadian teen drama instead, like why would I want to be creative or achieve anything when I can
live vicariously through the lives of a bunch of troubled young kids just trying to make their way in this crazy world, how is it even a
debate. Anyway, in an attempt to try and combat my tendency for procrastination, I
decided to set myself a task for this year that will force me to write
constantly and regularly, even if it is just goofy little blog posts that I
doubt anyone will read. Throughout 2014, I am going to watch every single film
in the Walt Disney animated canon and review each and every one of them as thoroughly
as I can. There are currently 53 of these films and there should be 54 by the
end of the year, so that boils down to a little over a film a week – in case
you’re wondering what counts as part of the animated canon, the list is right
here
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Walt_Disney_Animation_Studios_films I’ll be watching these films only, so sorry guys, if you want Pete’s Dragon or the Computer
Wore Tennis Shoes, you're gonna have to look elsewhere.
Full disclosure, I am a huge Disney fan and some of these films are among my favourite
movies of all time; I’ll try my best to avoid paragraphs of gushing and constant
praise and to remain objective and critical, but no promises. That said, I know
for a fact that at least a couple of these movies are pretty big pieces of shit,
so if you just want to hear a grown man complain about children’s
entertainment like pretty much every other "critic" on the internet, then don't worry, your needs will be met. A lot of these films I
have seen many times and know very well, quite a few I have seen, but
not for a long time, so I’ll be examining how I remember them as a child as
compared to how I feel about them now and some I’ve never seen before, so I’ll
be looking at them from a completely fresh perspective. Regardless of my former
experience, I’ll try my best to do at least a little research on each film
before I write my thoughts, just to get a better idea of the film as a whole, its intent and what was going on behind the scenes.
So, if any of this sounds like something you’d be interested
in reading about, I hope you consider coming back each week as I make my way
through the Disney catalogue from the highs to the uh... very low lows. If you
have any questions or comments please email me at joetalksaboutstuff@gmail.com You can also follow me on twitter at @JSChilds, y'know, if you're into that. Please check back on Wednesday
1st January as I start things off with the very first Disney
full-length animated feature, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves! SPOILERS: I'm pretty sure it's lame.
